Getting to Us is Straightforward
There is a variety of travel options to suit your preferences and budget
By Air
The fastest way to Diani is a direct, one-hour flight from Nairobi. You can fly from Wilson Airport (WIL), which is near the city center, or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). JKIA is generally the simplest option for international visitors as it’s the main entry point to Kenya.
Your other choice is to fly into Moi International Airport (MBA) in Mombasa, which handles both domestic and international traffic. Be aware that Diani is about a one-hour drive (45 km) south of this airport.
As a bonus for adventurers, Diani Airport also connects directly to the Masai Mara and supports local skydiving.
By Train
For a unique and scenic journey, consider taking the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), also known as the Madaraka Express, from Nairobi to Mombasa. The train ride takes about five to six hours and offers a comfortable and modern travel experience.
There are three daily services in each direction:
- Inter-County Train: A morning service that makes several stops.
- Afternoon Express Train: A faster service with a single stop at Voi.
- Night Train: A non-stop journey that travels overnight.
Tickets can be booked online through the official Kenya Railways website.
By Bus
For a flexible and affordable journey, you can take a long-distance coach from Nairobi to Mombasa, followed by a short transfer to Diani Beach. The trip takes approximately eight to ten hours by road, depending on traffic and stopovers, and offers an opportunity to enjoy changing landscapes along the way.
Several bus companies operate daily services between Nairobi and Mombasa, providing options that range from standard coaches to more premium services with extra comfort. Most buses travel overnight, but daytime departures are also available.
Once in Mombasa, a local transfer by taxi or shuttle will bring you to Diani Beach in about one and a half hours. Tickets can be booked online through the bus company websites or purchased at their booking offices in Nairobi.
